Motor Madness!

Let’s motorize the transmission now! We’re going to use that funny spiral piece in the kit. It’s called a Worm Gear and how it works is pretty cool!

You’re almost ready to design real car and truck transmissions!!

Now, instead of turning the blue wheel, have the motor turn for 5 seconds at power 9, and count how many times the tire and green light go around. Do it again after switching gears in the transmission by pushing the black axle.

You can even switch the black gears while the motor is running, just like a real car would!

Try changing the position of the grey gears like we did before too. What changes? Make the motor turn for 5 seconds at power 9 and try different gear combinations. Use the chart below:

Which combination would you put in a fast racecar? Which combination would you put in a big truck with a heavy load? Why?
